Tyler and Kaley Sutphen, co-owners of CrossFit Park Ave, describe their gym as a home to anyone. They are located in a transient neighborhood and they welcome everyone who comes in as part of their family, whether he/she is there to stay for a week or a year.
According to them, what separates them from other gyms is the knowledge they gained from their travels across the country. They have seen various gym layouts, creative programming, cultures, and many others. They have used all that research and incorporated what they think would work best into their own box.
One big mistake that they see people make is weight before technique. For them, a solid foundation of proper technique needs to be established first before adding load. While this could be frustrating, it will make a huge difference in the long run. In addition, there should also be fun. Having friends, laughing through workouts, and pushing each other play a big role in successfully achieving your goal. Fitness must be fun for people to continue doing it.
CrossFit Park Ave prides itself in having a welcoming environment that is unmatched. They understand that walking into a box for the first time can be intimidating. At their gym, each member or visitor is welcomed with big smiles, hugs, and high fives. They want others to feel as if CrossFit Park Ave is their second home and they work hard to create that environment.
Tyler and Kaley recently took over ownership of CrossFit Park Ave on May 1st, 2019. In the Summer of 2018, they traveled the USA for 6 months, dropping into over 80+ CrossFit boxes where they experienced various teaching styles and the love of the CrossFit community across the nation. In January of 2019, they also traveled to Cape Town, South Africa and spent a week working out with 2x Fittest Woman in the World Tia Toomey and observing Shane Orr's world-class coaching.
